Community Piece

I haven't finished the piece, but the deadline for the exhibit came and it was at an acceptable place so it's done until March 1 when I'll texture on some more words and glaze it to finish it up. I'm pretty happy with it but it is a little frustrating to be so close to having it the way I want it to look and having to wait.

Community: Leroy Barber as it was when submitted for the exhibit.

Here's a close up so you can see better how I left the grid lines visible. I love the texture this gives.

A close up of the first half of the wording I have on so far. The thick glaze was still a little wet. The white spots will be see through when it's completely dried.

The second half of the wording. I think I'll add slightly more red to the Y so it stands out a little bit against the lighter background.

Our church arts group is going to be putting on a show downtown later this year on human trafficking, trying to call attention to the issue. Our church is in the middle of making a documentary on the issue. Brandon, the guy in charge of video has been around the country and out of the country and actually interviewed some of the women trapped in the sex trade (He's been to Atlanta; I wonder if he interviewed some ladies from our old neighborhood). I'm planning on getting some photographs from Brandon and doing portraits of these women for the human trafficking show. I'm really excited about that. It's cool how this came about, too. We were in a church meeting discussing how as a body we've been led in the direction of "Isaiah 61" ministries and what we're planning on doing as a church to take action on issues like human trafficking, the environment, illiteracy and so on. When our pastor Tri brought up the sex trade and Brandon's documentary again I was really impressed with how much I wanted to paint these women's portraits. Then I was thoroughly convicted that we had to do a major show bringing attention in our area to the issue. After the meeting various ministries from the church had tables set up for folks to sign up. I bee lined it for the two chicks that head up our art group. As I opened my mouth to tell them my idea I realized they were having sign ups for a human trafficking art exhibit. They were excited about my conviction as a confirmation to them and I'll be helping to get this together as things get going.

It's wonderful, Lynn! Has Leroy seen it yet?!

What the heck!? I did not even know you painted. This portrait is awesome Lynn! Beautiful use of color and texture. Very impressive. To give Leroy a little credit, the face and expression..priceless. So glad you're finding time to do this.

Wow, Lynn! This work is really impressive. The value and skin tone looks great... well done, my friend - you totally captured his spirit and the theme... I am so stoked that you are working!!! This really makes me happy... smile!!!

I love your "happy drips"! Very pleasing. The portrait is very well done, I do like the grid lines. Did you mix the red paint in WITH the gel medium or did you paint over it?

I love your new banner BTW! Fresh pictures are wonderful! I love seeing your smiling faces!

Lynn -- this work in community (both within and outside) happening at your church is surely the work of The Spirit and helps me see what CtR's vision is articlulated to be. It is truely exciting to see how God is working and how you and others are responding. May the Spirit so move in CtR and may we be able to move in with it!

This is amazing Lynn! It's really wonderful that you're using your gifts like this. Sounds like a really cool project you'll be working on next - can't wait to see what comes out of it:)

Thanks all!

Mom - Leroy hasn't seen it yet. I was going to finish it first.

Linda - I do love this photo. I think it captures him perfectly.

Katie - I like the happy drips, too (was it one of your profs that used that term?). Andy wasn't sure how he felt about them at first, I'm not sure if he's decided yet. I think it works well w/Leroy's urban scene and nitty-gritty hands on lovin' style. I painted the red on top of the gel while it was still wet. I wanted it to be less consistent than mixing it in would have been. I can't get enough of that gel! Thanks!

Dana - I know without a doubt the Spirit is speaking some major things to me and to our church right now and I'm so on fire w/passion for the vision He's given me. I'll have to email you more details on our church's vision and plans. God's gonna be doing some major things this year!

It's so great to see God working in your lives. Is Jason Chatraw the one doing the video? If we ever make it out to Boise, I definitely wanna check out the Vineyard while there.

Joel, Brandon ? is doing the video. Check out http://www.vineyardboise.org/hear_the_word/reform.htm
for videos shown every Sunday by Brandon. We wish you guys were out here with us! Vineyard needs more people with your gifts to tie alot of independent parachurch groups together. Shoot, you'd probably even get paid.
We have met Jason Chatraw and plan on hanging out with them soon. They aren't too far from us.

Wow--I'm amazed by your ability to do this while raising three boys and growing a fourth. I'm amazed by your ability, period! Your paintings look great!! I love the little yellow bird too. : ) I'm so proud to be your cousin!!

Lynn,
Good to see some good work. Good in the Genesis sense of the word. Keep it up!
